EMILY SINDONI

Emily writes… “I started wrestling when I was just eight years old. My brother wrestled and I was always at tournaments. I told my dad I wanted to try it and the next practice I did. I instantly fell in love. I started wrestling at my youth club in Waverly, NY where I was coached by my dad, A.J. Sindoni, and George Granger. A few years later, I left this club to go train at Tioga, NY to get more experience and new partners. The rest of my youth career, I was coached by my dad and Jason Bellis. Also, I traveled all over to get other skills at different clubs.  

As a seventh grader, I was accepted and brought onto the varsity boys' team at Tioga Central High School by coach Kris Harrington. From the beginning of time, these boys accepted me and thought of me as their sister. I spent my six years on the best team in New York State. Throughout the years, I trained at Tioga year-round. There I was coached by Coach Harrington, Coach Jon Martin, Coach Bellis, and Ryan MacWhinnie.  

When I was younger, you rarely saw female wrestlers. I would often get questioned about it and have been told hurtful things. Today, if you go to a tournament or practice you will see a girl wrestler. It is so amazing to see the growth we have had in this sport. Women’s wrestling has come a long way, and I am so happy I was able to be a pioneer for this sport.  

Wrestling has made me the person I am today. I would not have been able to make it here without all the support from my supporters, family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I have made so many friends who have turned into family from this sport. This sport has allowed me to do things I never would have done without it. I could not be any more grateful for the opportunities I have had.

Emily is currently attending D’Youville University, majoring in Biology on a Pre-medicine track, and a minor in World Languages.
